The call will be conducted simultaneously by the seventeen funding organisations in their respective countries.
The French National Cancer Institute (INCa) will act as Joint Call Secretariat (JCS) to coordinate the application and selection process of JTC 2012.

AIM OF THE CALL
JTC 2012 aims at developing transnational innovative projects in cancer prevention, focused on the research of the mechanisms responsible for maintaining a healthy status vs. those underlying cancer development, and clearly oriented towards a rapid translation of the existing and newly acquired knowledge into individual- or patient-tailored interventions at highest potential for cancer control.
Transnational research proposals must address the topic of translational research on primary and secondary prevention of cancer, and must cover at least one of the areas specified below, which are equal in relevance for this call and which should comprise the specific aspects as indicated.
Primary cancer prevention
A) Identification and validation of cancer etiology drivers, based on molecular epidemiology-derived evidences.
B) Identification and validation of cancer preventive or predisposing factors, based on molecular epidemiology-derived evidences.
C) Investigation, prompted by clinical trials results, of molecular mechanisms of action of potentially cancer preventive drugs and of their combination, with a particular focus on the identification of modalities for inducing synergistic effects.
D) Clinical prevention trials of cancer-preventive agents.
E) Development of strategies and tools for immune prevention of cancer.
Secondary cancer prevention
A) Validation of biomarkers and development of technologies and methodologies for early detection and cancer screening.
B) Research on integration of age and co-morbidity, in terms of underlying mechanisms.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
There will be a two-stage submission procedure for joint applications: pre-proposals and full proposals. Both types of proposals must be written in English and must be submitted electronically to the JCS by the coordinator. Pre-proposals and full proposals should strictly follow the rules described in the Guidelines for applicants. To apply, please use the pre-proposal application form.
Pre-proposals must be submitted exclusively through the electronic submission system PT-Outilne by the deadline of 15 February 2013 at 17:00 (Central European Time). All proposals will be subject to a peer-review and a joint decision process of the funding organisations involved.
Successful applicants from the pre-proposal stage will be invited to submit their full proposals not later than 24 June 2013 at 17:00 (Central European Summer Time). Please note that full proposals will only be accepted from applicants explicitly invited by the JCS.
Applicants may request funding for individual grants according to national/regional rules. Please note that, for applicants from some countries/regions, it may be necessary to submit their proposals and/or other information not only to the JCS, but also to their relevant national/regional funding organisations. Therefore, applicants are strongly advised to check with their national/regional funding organisations for more details (see Annex 1. Contact information of the National/Regional Funding Organisations, Guidelines for applicants).
Based on the time required for the approval process for granting funds to the respective national/regional research groups, individual projects of a research consortium are expected to start in April 2014.
