The previous ERA-NET on translational cancer research TRANSCAN was funded by the European Commission under the FP7 from 2011 to 2014.
The network, coordinated by Italy (Ministry of Health), was comprised of 25 partners from 19 countries.
The main objective of TRANSCAN was to coordinate national and regional translational cancer research funding organisations' activities, aiming at the integration of basic, clinical and epidemiological cancer research and facilitation of coordinated, transnational cancer funding in Europe with the ultimate aim to streamline EU-wide cancer screening, early diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and care.
The specific objectives of TRANSCAN have been achieved through the implementation of interconnected activities, structured into the following six work packages:
Work Package 1 - Management and network coordination (Leader: MoH-ISS, Italy)
Work Package 2 - Survey and analysis of national cancer research funding of translational cancer research (Leader: CR-UK, United Kingdom)
Work Package 3 - Preparation of joint transnational calls (JTCs) (Leader: ISCIII, Spain)
Work Package 4 - Implementation of joint transnational calls (JTCs) (Leader: DLR, Germany)
Work Package 5 - Implementation of capacity building & training activities (Leader: INCa, France)
Work Package 6 - Monitoring of activities & network sustainability (Leader: FCT, Portugal)
